Stepping into a New Season: Welcome to the HEUG Family!

Shaking off the summer dust, celebrating our connections, and gearing up for what’s next with the YPN

The summer is marching to a close and a familiar energy is felt in the air right now. The campus pathways are starting to fill up again, and we are officially standing on the doorstep of a brand-new academic year. It is a season of fresh starts that unites all of us, and we want to extend a massive, warm welcome to our returning members who keep this community so vibrant, as well as a huge hello to our brand-new members and the new institutions joining our ranks for the very first time. Whether you have been helping your school run smoothly for years or you are logging into our community for the absolute first time, you are a vital part of the HEUG family.

Over the last couple of months, our summer routines probably looked quite different from one another. Some of us might have managed to sneak away for a quiet beach vacation, while many others were busy working behind the scenes, making sure all of our campus systems and updates were polished and ready for the start of a new year. Personally, my big summer chore was a rather humbling, two-week-long negotiation with many patches of exceptionally stubborn weeds under the hot sun in Umbria. Let’s just say that spending days pulling roots by hand gives you a deep, heartfelt appreciation for any task in life that can be solved with a simple “undo” button, or for those that remember an Etch-a-Sketch, “just pick it up and shake it!”

As we shake off the dust and dive into the busy fall term, we are carrying forward some incredible momentum from earlier this year, particularly from the fantastic turnout at Alliance 2026. While the conference itself was great, the absolute highlight for many of us at YPN was the huge success of the YPN Speed Networking session. To everyone who carved out time to attend, participate, and bring your energy to that room, thank you! You truly made the event special. It was a wonderful reminder that the real heart of our community isn’t found in slide decks or conference rooms. Instead, it lives in those quick, energetic chats, the shared laughs, and the simple joy of finally meeting face-to-face with people we had previously only known as a friendly name on an email or a tiny profile picture on a screen. Best of all, it got us incredibly excited for the next time we can all gather together in person at Alliance 2027 in San Antonio!

We want to bring that exact same warm, open-door energy into the year ahead, and we want absolutely everyone to feel invited. While we are called the Young Professionals Network, we are a group built for the entire community. Whether you are new to the field, young in your career, or simply looking to connect with some friendly faces across different organizations, you have a place with us.

To show you exactly what we mean, the YPN team is actively working to bring you some highly valuable, supportive programming this year. We are putting together regular, interactive discussions focusing on the real, everyday professional journeys we all share, from building key career skills to navigating growth and leadership transitions. Even better, we want to make sure you always walk away with actionable insights and practical toolkits you can apply right away in your daily work. Above all, we are focusing heavily on peer support and open dialogue, because we believe our shared experiences and collective wisdom are our greatest resources.

So, whether you are returning to us for another great year, joining us as a brand-new member, or representing one of our newly welcomed institutions, we are so incredibly glad you are here. Our session, YPN Presents: This & Yap – Building Your HEUG Community, will take place on August 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (ET). Join the Young Professionals Network (YPN) for an interactive conversation as we reintroduce the community, share what’s ahead, and hear what matters most to you.
