Alliance 2025: Tips for Submitting a Standout Session Proposal

Written by: Tesha Vera, HEUG Senior Education & Program Manager

The Alliance Conference is heading to New Orleans, and we can’t wait to see what you’ve got cooking! If you’re thinking about submitting a session proposal, we’ve got a few tips to help get you started. Call for Proposals is less than one month away, so let’s make sure your proposal shines like a jazz band on Bourbon Street!

1. Be Clear and Concise

Your proposal should be easy to read and understand. Clearly state your objectives, the problem you’re addressing, and how your session will benefit attendees. If your message is as clear as a sunny day in the French Quarter, you’re already ahead of the game.

2. Include Clear Learning Objectives

What’s the big takeaway? Whether it’s a new skill, knowledge, or some practical tools, make sure your learning objectives are as clear as a river. Let folks know exactly what they’ll walk away with, and how it ties into the bigger picture. Just like a good jazz riff, it’s all about the flow and the lasting impression it leaves.

3. Highlight Your Unique Angle

In a city known for its flavor, you’ve got to bring something special to the table. What’s your unique twist? Maybe it’s a fresh perspective, some cutting-edge research, or a new way of thinking about an old problem. Whatever it is, make sure you highlight it—we want to know what makes your proposal the one we can’t resist.

4. Keep Your Audience Engaged

Think about how you’ll keep your audience engaged from start to finish. Will you include interactive elements, encourage discussion, or use storytelling to drive your points home? Make sure your session has the energy of a Mardi Gras parade—lively, fun, and unforgettable.

5. Proofread and Edit

Before you hit “submit,” take a moment to polish your proposal. Review it for any errors or typos—because, just like in a fine restaurant, presentation matters. If you’ve got a trusted friend or colleague, ask them to give it a once-over, too. A fresh set of eyes might catch something you missed!

By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to creating a strong proposal that stands out from the crowd. We can’t wait to see what you bring to the conference and look forward to welcoming y’all to the Big Easy!
